Sir Ken Robinson calls for a revolution in education

This article, taken from a Costco Connections magazine was sent to me by a friend and avid reader.  I think she was more amazed at where she found it.  For those of you who don’t know Costco is a warehouse shopping club in the mid-west.  The fact that education  was covered by a shopping magazine points out that everyone is talking about the problems in education.  Granted part of the purpose of this article was to promote Sir Ken Robinson’s newest book, The Element:  How Finding Your Passion Changes Everything, however he makes many statements about education that make so much sense I could help but pass them on.  His ideas are nothing radical.

Please take the time to read the whole article I think you’ll be impressed.

A reader sent me this link to an animated short on one of Ken Robinson’s talks.  I think you will find it very interesting.  Ken Robinson Shakes up the Standards Paradigm

I have to do a little more research on this gentleman to see how long he has been talking about this. I can’t imagine that any serious work in education such as revamping a whole system could be done without considering the points he makes.

    • He has been working on these issues globally for a lifetime. The Queen knighted him for his work in education. Check out http://www.sirkenrobinson.com

Love pictures/photos/visuals and over 7 years ago they beacme a BIG part of our daily life to help my son understand this world we live in. they were/are my lifesaver and we still use them when needed although now we use social stories more often over the visuals. Great guest post

  2. I know a few people in Education crielcs trustees, administrators, teachers and they all know of Sir Kenneth and share his vision of the future of education. My sense is they are just unsure what steps will have to be taken to get there. They know it is not just about adding some arts to the current flawed system they know that it must be a whole new system a paradigm shift.

I picked up his book Elements on Audible. I drive a lot so this is a good format for me. I’m half way through and I am thoroughly enjoying Sir Ken Robinson’s book The Element. I actually may have to go out buy it and re-read it. It’s one of those books that makes so many good common sense points that I want to highlight. If you have time pick up a copy an let me know what you think. Makes me wonder how we be doing things so wrong and the newest changes in education follow the same path.
